ENTREVISTA A TOMMY CAGGIANI
"Veo diariamente a la gente transformándose, haciendo cosas nuevas. La clave de todo está en renovarse"
Milanés esudiante de Berkley University en Boston, Estados Unidos. Y consumado y virtuoso percusionista.
Ha trabajado con multitud de artistas y grupos de jazz, músicas del mundo, folk y rock y tiene editados 23 discos con distintas formaciones. Desde hace años realiza cursos y seminarios de percusión en importantes programaciones, Womad, Danzas Sin Fronteras, y desde el año 2003 es profesor de batería en el Conservatorio Superior de Jazz de Pamplona Pablo Sarasate, además de porfesor en nuestro Instituto.
- ¿Cómo comenzaste con la musicoterapia?
Empecé como músico. La música siempre ha formado parte de mi vida. A los 18 años me centré en lo que es mi amor de instrumento: la batería. Con los años me fui a vivir a Sudamérica y estudié percusión. Esto marcó un antes y un después en mi vida. Poco a poco me empezó a interesar el aspecto tribal de la percusión, más clínico que musical.
En mi día a día también me dedico a la enseñanza de percusión y batería en el Conservatorio Superior de Jazz de Pamplona.
- Hace un par de años terminó su el Máster del Instituto MAP, ¿Cuál fue el tema central del trabajo final?
Personalicé mi trabajo y lo realicé sobre la mente utópica. El máster me ha servido para completar mi formación y abrirme nuevas puertas de cara al futuro. He tenido la suerte de conocer y trabajar con una variedad de gente muy rica.
- · Tiene un grupo de música, ¿Qué aportaciones nuevas tenéis dentro de la música y el contacto con los oyentes?
En realidad tengo tres propuestas musicales principales. Por un lado el grupo Monastyr que es un dúo con guitarra y percusiones y trabajamos la improvisación y la música para documentales y películas. Luego esta Noss que es un grupo de piano que tiene un estilo de jazz étnico. Por otro lado se encuentra el cuarteto de José Luis Gutiérrez donde hacemos “jazz ibérico” que se puede definir como las raíces árabes, judías y folclóricas de España descritas en un lenguaje de jazz.
- ¿Qué tipo de transformaciones cree que se han llevado a cabo tanto en la profesión como en el Instituto?
En el sexto año que trabajo en la escuela de verano con el instituto, he percibido cambios en el personal, en el instituto que ha abierto nuevos espacios; en la gente que, se ha transformado y que ha pasado por más formación y enseñanza. Veo diariamente a la gente transformándose, haciendo cosas nuevas. La clave de todo ello está en renovarse.
- ¿En qué consiste su taller?
Está enfocado al aspecto más clínico. Intento explicar en un recorrido por el mundo no occidental, cómo se utiliza la percusión para la curación. Utilizan sobretodo en la percusión y la improvisación en grupo.
- ¿Qué tipo de actividades ha realizado en el Taller de la Escuela de Verano?
Se utilizan varias dinámicas de expresión corporal y voz para poder trabajar la percusión del cuerpo, expandirla a un instrumento y desde éste realizar un recorrido por la historia de la percusión desde la edad primitiva hasta hoy en día.
Percusión con sonidos de la naturaleza, percusión con instrumentos reciclados… Todo vale para poder enfocarlo en el uso clínico, es decir, jugamos con los materiales que se puedan encontrar en un hospital.
- ¿Qué proyectos tiene de cara al futuro?
Lo tengo muy claro, quiero limitar un poco la enseñanza porque absorbe mucho y quiero dedicar más tiempo a la musicoterapia y a mis grupos de música.
