Murray Schafer "Learn to listen to build our soundscape"
ABSTRACT
This article is from a lecture Murray Schafer gave in the seminar "Sonosphere, Municipality and Health" held in Gijón in 1995, during his first visit to Spain. He points out the importance of designing the acoustic atmosphere of the future, which is a task for everyone and to everyone. It is a task in which ordinay people have to play the main roles. That is why is so important that the teachers should transmit suitable criteria so that the students learn to listen the atmosphere that surrounds them and from that knowledge, become conscious of it to be able to transform it. Schafer goes through the evolution of sound through time in different communities and cultures which have their own sonorous surroundings.
